Wishing all our families a lovely Summer break.

Writes of Passage - Students favourite books

A book that has changed my perspective is ‘The Fault in Our stars’. It has taught me that life is precious. You may not get off on the right start with someone, but forgiving may be the best decision you could make . It taught me to enjoy every moment with everyone because tomorrow is not promised. We just expect it to be there.

A book that has meant something to me is ‘Non rider ‘. The reason for this is because it allows you to escape your worries and problems in the real world. It teaches you how to be resourceful and has small messages about how we can shape the world we live in.

A book that has meant something to me is ‘The Kite Runner’. This is because it explores the concept of friendship and faith through intricate detail and allows you to empathise with the difficulties the characters face in a war stricken country.

Anon yr 10

A book that means something to me is ‘It Ends With Us ‘. It has taught me how quickly people are to judge in situations and how difficult it is to escape from abuse by people you love. The book helps spread awareness and helps people relate to the situation and find the courage to leave or seek help from others.

Gangsta Granny has changed the relationship between me and my nan. Gangsta Granny is a book explaining and showing how well the grandma and grandson get along: such as when they head to the bank to rob it , showing how well they get along together. After reading this book, I realised that the age of my grandmas doesn’t matter; we can still do the things we both love together.

A book that has meant something to me is ‘Neymar and Ronaldo. The reason for this is that it taught me that no matter if you are poor/broke /in poverty, it doesn’t matter as long as you chase your goal /dream  and believe in yourself, you could make it (self-love). It has also taught me to be humble and calm.

A book that has taught me something is  ‘Dora’s Diary’.The reason for this is that it taught me something about life and how you choose your friends properly, which I never seem to be able to get right: that if they don’t help you with anything in life, then they aren’t real friends.

Anon yr 8

A book that has meant something to me is ‘Ronaldo’. The reason for this is that it taught me something about never giving up and working hard to reach your goals, because if you can’t do something do not give up straight away, keep going and do that thing because practice makes perfect.

Anon yr 8

A book that has meant something to me is ‘Me and My Mother’. The reason for this is that this has taught me how fast life goes and that anything is possible. In this book there is a mother and daughter who don’t see each other, so they write notes on the fridge and one day the girl learns that her mom has cancer and then her mum dies, and she still continues to write notes even though she’s dead and she can’t see them .

A book that has made me think about things in a different way is ‘Awful Auntie’. The reason I have chosen this book is that it shows me how hateful people can be because they are jealous of something you have and that you should not trust everyone. Many people in this world will do  things to annoy you because of jealousy. This book has taught me that people will do anything to get what you have rather than being happy for your success.

A book that has meant something to me is ‘Sweetfreak’. The reason why I chose this book is because it taught me to be trustworthy and honest to others including people online and in society. Society nowadays has become worse as people are easily bullied on social media and can sometimes frame you when you did nothing wrong, so you need to be honest and trustworthy to everyone so that they know what kind of person you are.

A book that has changed me and how I see things is ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ because it really made me open my eyes to be more aware of discrimination. The part that hurt most whilst reading the book was how the victims were taken from their families and split up at any age. They would  be gassed, abused, starved and mistreated terribly: all that just because of their ethnicity and what they believed in.

A book that has meant something to me is Rashford by Matt and Tom Oldfield. The reason why I chose this book is because it taught me to train harder and encouraged me to keep on trying to get into an academy football team. It showed me despite how many obstacles are in your path, you can overcome them and do what you need to achieve in life. The book taught me to strive in life

Anon yr 8

A book that has changed my way of thinking is ‘War Horse’. It shows that animals have feelings and that they are really pure and kind. War Horse taught me that we should take more time to care and spend more hours with animals and fix our friendships with them.

Chuks yr 8

A book that has meant something to me is,’Girl in Pieces’. The reason for this is that I struggle with what the main character struggles with, which is loneliness and self-harm. Reading about someone else’s experience in life while having similar issues to me taught me to never judge someone by what they portray. Trust is very important and people can be easily manipulated and used, so building a trusting bond is important

A book that has meant something to me is ‘Four’ as part of the Divergent series. This is because of the storyline that it follows. It teaches the reader to follow their heart, even in situations that seem impossible.

A book that meant something to me is ‘Violet Bent Backwards over the Grass’ by Lana Delray. Although it is a poetry book, the meanings of some of the poems are really beautiful.. Most of them are about has one has to find happiness within themselves and to stop having hateful people control your self worth. It also mentions how to be content in the present moment, and to find the path that feels fulfilling to you. Delray’s way of presenting her life through her poetry(even her songs ) have kept me spellbound and inspired to create.

A book that has meant something to me is ‘The reckless Afterlife of Harriet Stoker’. The reason for this is because it has taught me the importance of friendships and that even if you feel hopeless there is always a new beginning. The book helped me grasp the idea that even if you fail, you can get up and start again, which I’ve struggled with and never been able to grasp. The book has taught me the importance of perseverance and it helped me empathise with the characters, who were very unfortunate at the start of the story.

Berfin yr10

A book that has meant something to me is ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’. This is because it highlights LGBTQ struggles in an earlier generation. The main character is a mixed race woman and it explains how difficult it is /was to be a woman of colour trying to progress in acting in a heavily racist generation.

Anon yr 10

A book that has meant something to me is ‘Verity’. The reason for this is that it has taught me that people aren’t always what they seem and to be careful of who you trust. It can really be an eye –opener on who you make friends with. The book highlights the manipulation of a mother who is also a writer and tells a ‘story’ of her kids and their deaths and how she caused them using her occupation as an excuse, leaving her husband and son in agony and grief. The book taught me to always double-check on what people tell you and not believe them without evidence.

Anon yr10

A book that has taught me well is ‘No Longer Human’. This book is all about how life can become so meaningless that you can feel you aren’t human enough, out of the ordinary. The book taught me about how hard life could be , but yet I should be resilient to persevere and live and not feel out of the ordinary,

Eda yr10

A book that has meant something to me is Jane Eyre. Jane is a strong character who taught me that perseverance and strength can change your whole perspective, even though life can imprison you in tough situations. She is inspiring and a brave individual.

Anon yr10

Jane Eyre : a book that entails the  life of a wistful girl who longed for a comforting family. It taught me to be thankful and appreciative of what I have. It was enlightening and showed that when faced with adversity, not everyone would be at the same starting point and they may have worked hard to achieve what they have accomplished.

Faiza, yr10

A book that has meant something to me is ‘The Boy in Striped Pyjamas’. This is because it has taught me a lot about selflessness and to be conscious of what people around you are going through. It has also taught me about diversity and that everyone should be treated the same. It has also taught me about the past and how differently people were treated.

Anon yr10

Harry Potter showed me not to judge people straight away as some characters seem like they have no problems at the start of the book, but as it goes on they start to unravel more.

Anon yr10

A book that has changed my life is ‘All the Stars Burned Brightly’. This is because the book highlights the unison of two opposites (people) facing multiple different obstacles in their lives. The book has changed my mindset/perspective on the original look of people, as you never know what people are going through. This is why you should always be considerate and kind to people.
