Headteacher in running for top UK teaching award

As the Chief Executive Officer of the Trust that manages your school I wanted to let you know some wonderful news.

Your Headteacher, Mr Barzey, has this morning, been named as a finalist in the UK’s top award for teachers.

His extraordinary leadership of school over the past four years has been recognised by the Times Awards - known as the TES School Awards - which are the most prestigious in the UK. They celebrate excellence at national level and receive wide publicity in the media. Arthur has beaten many hundreds of other headteachers to get to the final.

Arthur Barzey has certainly been one of the best appointments I have made as CEO at North Star Community Trust.  He believes in every child and the opportunity for them to succeed. He is passionate about academic excellence and the results since he was appointed have been fantastic. Arthur has also brought a sense of belonging to the school by creating a genuine family culture, quickly making Heron Hall one of the most popular schools in the Borough.  Under Arthur, Heron Hall is a place where staff and pupils genuinely care and support one another. This is a much deserved acknowledgement for Arthur and for the school as a whole.

I wanted to share with you the quote that Arthur has released to the media:

“It is with great pride and humility that I thank all those who contributed to me being a finalist for the TES Headteacher of the Year award. This is not a national recognition for myself, it is one for the family, the Heron Hall family.”

“I stand on the shoulders of giants, who go above their call of duty and job specification to break down socio-economic barriers and then build bridges of aspiration, resilience and success for our students. The old African phrase ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ is indeed encapsulated in our school and Trust mission statement "Stronger Together" and our five key family S.T.R.I.V.E values which underpin everything we do.”

I am sure you will want to congratulate Arthur for reaching the final.

If you would like to send a message to wish Arthur well please email [email protected]

Fingers crossed he is named as Britain’s best Headteacher in June!

This is now the second national final that our staff have reached this year, with Juliet Demetriou recently named as a finalist in the Pearson National Teaching Awards for her work with the Community Outreach team.
